外国人の友達や同僚とのスモールトークで使えるトピック4選

　同僚や大学の友達、留学先などで英語でスモールトークをする機会は意外と多いと思います。そんな時に沈黙してしまわないように、事前にトピックや回答パターンを覚えておくと良いです。

　そんなのスモールトークではない！かもしれませんが、まずはスムーズに会話できることが大切です。この4トピック覚えてしまいましょう。ちなみに、スモールトークは当り障りのない話題を話すことが大切です。

　登場人物＝John（同僚）、自分＝Me

1.食べ物

　これは間違いなく使える話題No.1です。その国のローカルフードや和食について話せるようにしておきましょう。例えばこんな感じ。ポイントは、ローカルフードを食べておくこと、和食のネタを用意しておくことのみです。

ローカルフード編

John; Have you tried anything local food?

Me: Yes, I’ve had Chicken Rice at local restaurant. It was so nice!

John; Oh, it’s nice. Chicken rice is one of the most popular foods in Singapore. Anything else you’ve tried?

Me: Year,I’ve also tried Mala Hot Pod, it was so hot that I couldn’t eat all!

John: Oh you tried Mala! That’s so challenging for me too.

和食編

John: I’m going to Japan for business trip next week. Do you have any recommendation for Japanese food?

Me: You should try Sushi, Ramen, Miso-soup and so on, these are famous among the world.

John: Year, I know Sushi and Miso-soup, but what is Ramen?

Me; （インスタなどで写真を見せながら）Ramen is one of the Japanese noodles. The origin is from China but known as Japanese food. You can try soy sauce based, miso based, salt based soup.

John: That sounds nice. I’ll try some!

出汁を説明するフレーズ

出汁は英語でstock とかsoup stockと言います。でも伝わったことがほぼないので、出汁と言ったほうが良いかもしれません。

Almost all Japanese food are based on japanese soup stock called “Dashi”. It is made from boiled water with Konbu or bonito.

Dashi has Umami. This is a fifth taste. You can experience the taste of Umami by having Japanese cuisine.

2.住んでいるところ、もしくは地元

　これは簡単で気軽に話せます。

John:Where do you live in Singapore?

Me: I live in 〇〇. My condo is near the 〇〇 station. It’s only 2 stops from our office.

John: Sounds nice. I live in △△. I need to take a bus and transfer twice to get to the office. Where did you live in Japan by the way?

Me: I used to live in Tokyo. Have you ever been to?

John: Year of course. It’s nice and clean city.

補足・・日本で住んでいる（た）ところをよく聞かれます。シンガポールでは都道府県という概念がないので、prefectureという言葉は通じないです。他の国でもprefectureという言葉があまり通じないことが多かったので、普通に東京とか神奈川とそのまま地名を言うのが良いです。

3.週末何をしているか

　これも定番ですね。日本語でもよく使われる話題ですね。

John; What do you do on weekend?

Me: I basically stay at home for such a situation. Sometimes I go shopping these days.

John: Oh, where do you go shopping?

Me: When I have my hair cut, I go to Orchard and Somerset. I enjoy shopping while I’m at it.

John: Orchard is nice shopping street. I sometimes go there as well.There are some Japanese, right?

Me: Year, I like to go to Takashimaya and Kinokuniya. Especially, I can buy Japanese books at Kinokuniya. It’s so helpful.

John: Yes, Kinokuniya is large book shop. What do you buy?

Me: I get some Japanese comic books.

John: Japanese comic is very interesting. I’ve read ‘Kimetsuno-yaiba’ in Chinese by the way.

※補足・・・シンガポールにはオーチャードストリートという、日本でいう表参道のようなところがあります。日本人が多く訪れるところなので、日本の物が手に入りやすく、紀伊国屋書店では、有名どころのマンガも手に入ります。

4.趣味

　これも定番です。少し仲良くなった時ようの話題として使えると思います。

John: Do you have any hobbies?

Me: I like travel, reading a book, watching Youtube, and cooking.

John: I like travel as well. Which countries do you think the best?

Me: I like European countries such as Germany, Portugal, Italy. My favorite country is Portugal. Food is nice, it’s a bit similar to Japanese food. City view is nice as well. Where are the best countries for you?

John: I never been there. I want to go there someday. In my case, I like Hokkaido, it’s so cold but snow view is really amazing!
